Kiteworks MCP

Claude Desktop Connector — Enable & Configure

How to install the Kiteworks MCP Server connector in Claude Desktop from the marketplace, grant it access to your Kiteworks account, configure which tools require approval, and disable the connector when needed.

This page is the full enable, permissions, and disable walkthrough for the Claude Desktop Connector. Before users can install the connector, an administrator must enable Kiteworks MCP in the Admin Portal console (see Configure MCP in Admin Portal).
To create Kiteworks Forms with Claude, the Kiteworks account you connect must have the Form Builder role assigned. Without it, the Forms creation tools will be unavailable even after the connector is enabled.

Enable the MCP Server

The Kiteworks MCP Server connector is accessed through Claude's Connectors settings. Follow these steps to install and activate it.

  1. Open Connectors in Claude
In Claude Desktop, go to Customize → Connectors.
  2. Find the Kiteworks MCP Server connector
Search for Kiteworks MCP Server and select it from the results.
  3. Install the connector
Click Install on the connector detail screen.
  4. Enter your Kiteworks URL and accept the data terms
In the configuration pop-in, enter your Kiteworks instance URL (e.g. https://your.kiteworks.domain) and accept the Data Access Terms.
  5. Optionally enable destructive operations
If you want Claude to be able to delete or move files and folders, enable the destructive operations toggle. This is off by default.
  6. Save
Click Save to apply the configuration.
  7. Activate the connector
Use the toggle button to activate the connector. It must be on for Claude to access Kiteworks tools.
  8. Sign in to Kiteworks
A browser window opens and redirects you to your Kiteworks instance. Enter your credentials to authenticate.
Sign in with the account that has the Form Builder role if you intend to create Kiteworks Forms. You can check role assignment in the Kiteworks Admin console under Users → User Management.
The Kiteworks MCP Server connector is now active. Claude can use it to interact with your Kiteworks instance according to the tool permissions described in the next section.

Configure Connector Permissions

Tool permissions control which Kiteworks operations Claude can perform automatically, which require your manual confirmation each time, and which are blocked entirely. You can adjust these at any time after the connector is enabled.

View tool permissions

  1. Open the connector settings
In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors and select the Kiteworks MCP Server connector.
  2. Review the tools list
The full list of tools the connector uses is shown under Tools Permissions. Each tool displays its current permission setting.

Tool types

The connector's tools are grouped into two types based on the kind of API request they make:

TypeOperationsExamples
Read-only GET requests only — retrieve data without making any changes Listing folder contents, retrieving form templates, looking up user details
Write / Delete POST, PUT, and DELETE requests — create, update, or remove data Creating a folder, generating an Advanced Form, deleting a file

Permission levels

Each tool can be set to one of three permission levels:

Always allow

Claude uses the tool automatically whenever it determines it is needed, without prompting you for confirmation.

Needs approval

Claude pauses and prompts you to confirm before using the tool. Choose this for write or delete operations you want to review case by case.

Blocked

Claude cannot use the tool at all, even if asked. Use this to prevent specific operations entirely — for example, blocking all delete tools in a shared environment.

Recommended starting point: set read-only tools to Always allow and write/delete tools to Needs approval. This lets Claude retrieve information freely while ensuring you review any action that modifies or removes data before it is executed.

Disable the MCP Server

Disabling the connector suspends Claude's access to Kiteworks without removing the configuration. To re-enable it later, simply toggle it back on. To fully remove the connector and its configuration, use Uninstall instead.

  1. Open the connector settings
In Claude Desktop, go to Customize → Connectors and select the Kiteworks MCP Server connector.
  2. Toggle the connector off
Use the toggle button to deactivate the connector. Claude will immediately lose access to Kiteworks tools until the toggle is turned back on.
